About Childers

Childers is as rich in history as its rich red volcanic soils in this old fashioned, National Trust country town, just 4 hours or so from Brisbane, and the same from Rockhampton. A stop over? No, never enough time to feel and wrap yourself in the country relaxed way of living.

As you drive into Childers, with rolling hills and sugar cane blowing in the winds and skirting the roads, you will see orchards of avocados and macadamia nuts flowing into the landscape of vastness. This adds to the counrty charm and feel of Childers hospitality throughout the region, a relaxed feeling coming your way.

Childers oozes history! As you walk up the main street you can stop and visit the WW1 Cannon and Soldiers Memorial Room. The Memorial Room is full of photos of young men who gave their lives in both world wars. There is also a tribute to 15 young backpackers who perished in the fire in the year 2000. Stop into the Military Museum and the old Pharmacy Museum. Both museums have many photos where you step into one era past, but not forgotten.

Head to the Art Deco building and see the Grand Paragon Theatre which still shows films and holds events. Stop in for a coffee and breakfast while sitting and watching the world go by.

Jump in the car and visit award winning Woodgate Beach. Your fur baby can really have a run on the beach. Breathe in the air and feel relaxed, a million miles from any busy city.

Back to Childers Tourist Park and Camp for a rest and to listen to the chorus of native birds. Smell the eucalyptus in the air and watch the kangaroos play. Stroll down the beautiful gardens to the pond.

Time for a BBQ at the camp fire and ponder tomorrows activities. Perhaps a visit to a winery or a zoo, or hunt out some wonderful food. Take time to breathe and gaze and wrap yourself in nature and all its beauty at Childers Tourist Park and Camp.
